College Programs for HVAC Training and Skills
A great source of Continuing Education, as well as certificate and degree HVACR training, is available at 15 of the State's colleges. Located all over the state, they provide a training source in your own backyard. The instructors are there, the labs are there, so it just makes sense to take advantage of the resource. Each has an advisory board that welcomes new members and input. Whatever you need, these programs are best positioned to meet your training needs. The Association encourages you to get to know the instructor and be available to serve the industry, your employees, and your customers at the local HVACR college program.

The Associate of Applied Science in General Technology allows the blending of a technical certificate with general education courses to form a degree that consists of applied technologies. This program is designed to prepare students for careers in air conditioning and refrigeration. Students will develop and practice skills for servicing, repairing, installing, and sizing air conditioning and refrigeration equipment for residential applications.

The air conditioning and refrigeration industry offers a bright future for people who wish to prepare for entry into this profession. The Energy Control Technology program prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to repair, install, service and maintain the operating conditions of heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. The program includes instruction in diagnostic techniques, the use of testing equipment and the principles of mechanics, electricity, and electronics as they relate to heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. Emphasis is placed on the repair and installation of residential and commercial heating and cooling systems.

The Residential Heat & Air Conditioning program offers training in all aspects of heating and air conditioning repair and maintenance. The Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Certificate prepares students for careers in the maintenance and installation of residential and commercial HVAC systems. The one-year program prepares students for the American Refrigeration Institute Certification Examination that students must pass to become licensed technicians. The certificate may be used as one of the technical disciplines required for the AAS in General Technology. HVAC internships are available for students interested in improving their technical skills and making contacts within the HVAC industry.

The HVAC-R program provides the training necessary for those desiring employment in this high demand and high paying field. Opportunities abound with local companies as well as opportunities across the nation. Employment in the HVAC and refrigeration technician field is expected to grow by 24 percent through 2024, much faster than the average for all occupations.
